The context
The right lights at the right time: here’s how to obtain excellent seedlings for production. In recent months, the fruit and vegetable company Francescon has completed the construction of new greenhouses, some of which have been equipped with C-Led lighting. The goal is to produce melon and watermelon plants, whose harvest represents the company’s core business.
In February and March, the photoperiod is still short, and light—calibrated to the needs of melons and watermelons—is essential to support growth. “I’ve noticed that plants exposed to artificial light grow better, they don’t suffer from elongated internodes, and when they are later transplanted in the field, they show greater uniformity,” explains the technician.
“We are proud of the collaboration with Francescon,” emphasizes Raffaello Montanari of C-Led, “as this is a company attentive to innovation, forward-looking, and increasingly a leader in its market.”
“Thanks to a specific spectrum for this stage,” Montanari concludes, “characterized by wavelengths that stimulate photosynthesis, the result is compact and well-structured plants with a developed root system. All of this enhances the overall quality of the plants while reducing consumption, since the lamps are highly efficient.”
